“ART OF BALANCING”
Life is nothing but
An art of balancing
Between:
Mixing and matching
Accepting and snatching
Hoping and praying
Leaving and staying
Life is nothing but
An art of balancing
Between:
Twisting and turning
Soothing and burning
Thinking and wishing
Avoiding and kissing
Life is nothing but
An art of balancing
Between:
Dreaming and stealing
Ignoring and feeling
Loving and hating
Not minding and rating
Life is nothing but
An art of balancing
Between:
Remembering or forgetting
Giving and getting
Silence and talking
Crawling and walking
Life is nothing but
An art of balancing
Between:
Avoiding and learning
Disliking and yearning
Leaving and trying
Living and dying
Life is nothing but
An art of balancing

The first time I ever took a yoga pose was while studying at Northwestern during the NHSI Summer Program. I thought I was going to die. At age 16 I was convinced of two things: 1) I was never going to do a push-up and 2) lunges were not fun. Since then I have had a continually changing relationship to yoga.
During college I thought it was just about stretching. Shortly after graduating I discovered a book on my mother's shelf from her own college days: 28 Days of Yoga. I attempted to follow the book, I got about 3 days in. It wasn't until working in Washington, DC that I fell in love with yoga. I discovered Flow Yoga and found the perfect combination of breathing, movement and stretching. While Flow Yoga became my style of choice, it was in many ways a gateway drug. Now that I have a relationship with my mat I find myself wanting more. Every style, every teacher, every asana reinforces my conviction that yoga is my way to find center.
As an instructor I don't claim to know all the answers. Many poses I still struggle to attain. Though I am still learning and growing in my practice, I hope to teach others the joy I have found from yoga. It has taught me to remain calm, to remember to breath, how to stretch and how to workout, how to be healthy and how to take time for myself. Whatever reason you may be interested in trying yoga, I hope you will find a teacher and give it the many chances I gave it as it is such a wonderful way to stay healthy and happy.
